View DO Bobby Marcus RE: Week 6 Welcome Week 6 Main Post I want to devote time to caring for the seniors in underprivileged communities. I have worked with seniors for the last 10 years and have witnessed the disparity in healthcare for seniors, the rising cost of medication, and the increased use of technology. Many seniors are left out of benefits because they are not using or unable to use the technology. Pandemic The COVID pandemic was a prime example of how our seniors are left out. To get the vaccine they had to sign up online, many could not navigate the web page and others did not have the equipment to get on the web. Some high school seniors volunteered to assist the seniors to sign up for the vaccine. This was great for this incident, but we always need something in place to navigate the WEB for our seniors. Speciality I made the choice to work toward my AGPCNP at Walden Uni ding to devote my time and prof sion toward the betterment of underprivilege seniors. The decision was an easy decision to make. The driving factor is the belief that I can make a difference in the lives of seniors in underprivileged communities. To make a difference, I must have the tools necessary (Matthew, 2012). While at Walden University learning to network with other professionals and non-professionals. According to Hill 2011, never underestimate the power of networking. Florida Nursing Association Joining professional organizations will provide the platform needed to network with other professionals. The organization I am joining is Florida Nurses Association (FNA). Membership fees have recently been reduced you can pay by the month or annually. The mission of FNA is to advance the profession of nursing and promoting a healthy Florida. The FNA Supports efforts to protect and enhance the ability of Registered Nurses (RN), Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNS) and Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRNs) to practice to the full extent of their education and experience, Professional organizations provide nurses with a network of experts to share clinical and administrative challenges and gain new ideas and knowledge. Innovative ideas are shared among colleagues along with meaningful discussions about the pros and cons of implementation of new and innovative ideas (Cherry, B., Caramanica, L. Everett, L..). Summary Nursing has always been about making a difference in the lives of the people we care for. With the disparity in underprivileged seniors, I see this population needing another voice to speak for them. The FNA supports legislation that will allow all nurses to practice to the full extent of their education and training in all practice environments, including telehealth. Matthews JH. At first, my dad passed away in the first week of school, I did not return until 5-7 years later. My dad and I had talked many times about becoming a Family Nurse Practitioner. I have been longing to fulfill our dream of finishing school with a master’s degree certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner in primary care. A “Family Nurse Practitioner cares holistically” for all people in all age groups (Walden University, n.d.). Thave enjoyed educating patients regarding their health disparities and the most cost-effective way to manage their care. I have also enjoyed teaching every patient use and effects on the body of their medication. I desire to help others to become independent to care for themselves. I believe knowledge is power; therefore, I want to empower everyone to manage their health disparities with a full understanding of what each test, medication, or examination will enhance their health. “Nurses must achieve specialty certifications and continuing- education opportunities whenever available to develop and maintain their knowledge-base and skill set” (Echevarria, I. M., 2018). Thus, it is vital to join a professional organization. The association I would like to be a member of is the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP). It has plenty of networking for collaboration with fellow practitioners. It contains continuing education credits to improve my knowledge base as well as show dedication to other nurse practitioners. It allows me to gain access to journals and news feeds to improve my knowledge of innovations and evidence-based theories to bring to my practice. I believe that I can make a difference in the community throughout my career. “AANP’s mission: that every NP should be empowered to advance quality health care through practice, education, advocacy, research and leadership” (“AANP membership”, n.d.). This aligns with my values in nursing practice and practitioners. As a member, I would have to pay annual dues and keep up continuing education for the practice. A member is part of a group that reaches “to strengthen the profession and the health of this country” (“AANP membership”, n.d.). Reference AANP membership.
