Week 3 Discussion

The key words used to find the five articles include “4-day work week”, “work-life balance”, and “nonprofit organizations.” Further, I located the five articles relevant to the topic of study using the following databases; the Open Library database, Google Scholar, Taylor & Francis, and Google Books. Related to the “4-day work week”, I used the Open Library database,found from the Walden database to locate the article by Andrew Barnes.

The five articles I chose for the research focus on the topic of study and provide great insight regarding the 4-day work week and work-life balance in nonprofit organizations. Besides, the articles are peer-reviewed showing that the information provided is accurate, reliable, and suitable for any audience. According to Barnes (2020), the four-day week helps employees achieve optimal productivity, worker benefits, work-life balance, and economic equities like diversity in business and governance and the gender pay gap. This article relates to the topic because it provides great insight and evidence of practice. On the other hand, Sims & Bias (2019) explain that the 4-day work week revealed employee flexibility, job satisfaction, and sound psychological health among nonprofit organization employees. This article relates to the topic of study because it highlights the benefits of the four-day work week in nonprofit organizations. According to a study conducted by Jones & Jones (2017), women’s success in nonprofit organizations is correlation with leadership styles and women leadership is enhanced by work-life balance and job satisfaction. This article relates to the topic of study because it touches on the importance of work-life balance in attaining women’s success in nonprofit organizations. Sims & Bias (2019) explain the issues, challenges, and trends in human resource management. The article stresses the importance of the four-day work week in nonprofit organizations and relates to the topic of study because it highlights the benefits of the 4-day week in nonprofit organizations and its effectiveness in organizationally-relevant benefits.

Rao (2017) posits that a reasonable work-life balance enhances sustainable human development in high-performing organizations, especially nonprofit organizations. The author explains that a work culture that supports work-life balance promotes sustainable human development through higher employee engagement. The article relates to the topic of study in that it studies the role of the four-day work week in sustainable human development. In another article, Wadsworth & Facer (2016) conducted a study that showed that work-family balance is different between employees on traditional schedules and those on the 4-day schedule. The article relates to the topic in that it gives the results of an actual study conducted between the four-day workweek and the traditional work schedule and is helpful in the research because it hints at nonprofit organization workers.
